In Chiang Khong, the Friendship Bridge spans the Mekong and allows entry into Laos, where a French-speaking guide will be waiting for you. Formalities and transfer to the pier.
Boarding on the Mekong, one of the most beautiful rivers in the world. Its banks come alive with village life. Lunch on board and disembarkation in the small village of Pakbeng, a true trading crossroads where goods transit to or from Vientiane, Thailand, Burma or China. It is not uncommon to see a ship flying the Chinese flag.
Optional walk in the village. Dinner at leisure and overnight at your hotel.

After breakfast, you will take a pirogue to the mahouts at the elephant camp on the other bank of the Mekong. Riding an elephant, you will enter the jungle to enjoy beautiful viewpoints over the river and watch the elephants bathe.
Departure for Muang La after lunch. The province of Oudomxay is the heart of northern Laos, a mountainous region home to many ethnic minorities.
Check-in at Muang La Lodge, renowned for its art of living, including a ritual bath in naturally salty hot water, possible in the river or in an elevated pool to enjoy the view over the Nam Pak River. Access to the traditional Lao sauna and the massage “sala”. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

A day meeting three typical communities of northern Laos: Khamu, Hmong and Akha. The 4×4 track is superb and reveals, at 1,000 m altitude, a beautiful viewpoint over the valley.
With your guide, you will go from a Khamu village to a Hmong village, an ethnic group originating from the high steppes of Tibet. The Hmong live in total harmony with nature and deeply respect pigs, buffalo and other animals that are very present in their way of life.
Picnic lunch prepared by the lodge before continuing to an Akha village, a people originating from Yunnan and Tibet. 
Return to Muang La at the end of the day. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Stage: Muang La

Discovering the Lodge also means getting to know the village of Muang La, where it grew up. An authentic, friendly village, set on both sides of the Nam Pak River with a Buddhist temple, a few small shops, chickens, dogs and pigs roaming between the stilt houses. Bucolic setting and lovely views over the river, which you cross on a bamboo raft.
This loop is done on foot, alongside a guide, and allows a return to the Lodge via the fields and the saltworks, an ancestral activity. Optional detour by minibus to the monastery of Wat Hoytinphabath and its impressive 35-meter-long Reclining Buddha. Late lunch and free time to enjoy the hotel facilities. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Stage: Luang Prabang

Muang Khua: boarding your private boat. This river descent on the Nam Ou to Nong Khiaw is the most beautiful in the region! 
Along your route on the water, many villages and magnificent landscapes, including beautiful karst formations that seem to rise from the water. 
Picnic lunch prepared by the Lodge.
In the late afternoon, disembark at Nong Khiaw where a vehicle takes over for Luang Prabang, which you will reach in the evening. A religious center of great importance, the town itself is a vast museum.
Dinner at leisure and overnight at your hotel in the heart of the town.

This beautiful day begins at first light: the monks leave their temple and cross the town to collect offerings from villagers. A colorful and silent spectacle not to be missed!
With a private guide, an à la carte visit of the main religious buildings: Wat Aham and Wat Visoun, the oldest in town, the Tat Mak Mo shaped like a watermelon, the charismatic Wat Xieng Thong, Wat Phraphoutthabat, the monastery of the Buddha’s Footprint, and many more — the town has more than thirty!

Stopovers: Luang Prabang, Kuang Si Falls

A day themed around rice, the staple food in Laos. 
Selecting the grains, sowing, transplanting the shoots… At each step, you will learn to use the strength of a dear friend to every farmer: the water buffalo, an essential partner in the absence of modern tools.
After this fun moment, you will be invited to enjoy a picnic prepared by the Soum Noum restaurant and served at the foot of the magnificent Kuang Si waterfalls. Optional short hike to discover the terraced cascades.
Return at sunset from Mount Phousi. On your way down, stop at the night market set up at the foot of the stairs, a chance to bring back treasures of handicrafts. Dinner at leisure and overnight at your hotel.

Stops: Pakse, Champassak, Don Daeng Island

Flight to Pakse where a French-speaking guide specializing in southern Laos will be waiting for you. 
Visit the colonial quarter of Pakse, then drive to Champassak.
Free afternoon to discover the small town and rest while enjoying the hotel facilities. Dinner at leisure and overnight at your hotel.

Return to Champassak, a former royal city with an architectural heritage of colonial houses and traditional Lao houses. Located 8 km away, the magnificent Vat Phou temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, reveals a chapter of the history of the Chenla kingdom. Smaller but older than Angkor in Cambodia, it exudes a magical atmosphere…
After lunch at leisure, other remains can be visited on the Mekong riverbank: Oum Muang, once a relay point for boats coming from Cambodia. Brick sanctuaries can be seen there. Dinner at leisure and overnight at your hotel.

Stops: 4,000 islands, Champassak

From Done Khong Island, cruise to Don Khone for a one-and-a-half-hour cruise on the Mekong in the 4,000 islands and to the Khone Phapeng Falls, where the river breaks into a series of falls over 14 m high. These falls are the largest in Southeast Asia.
Lunch break on Done Khone overlooking the river before visiting the island and its Devil’s Falls. Finally, you will approach the Mekong dolphins by pirogue, the only place in the world along with Burma where these freshwater dolphins can be observed.
In the late afternoon, return to Champassak. Dinner at leisure and overnight at your hotel.
