What to do in Champassak?

It is pleasant to stroll along Champassak’s main street between the colonial buildings and the Mekong riverbank. At dusk, you can enjoy a traditional puppet show at the Champassak Shadow Theatre. You can explore the surrounding villages by bicycle or visit Wat Phou, a famous pre-Angkorian temple listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Do not miss the Vat Phou Festival, held every year in February! Opposite Champassak lies the small island of Don Deng, with its 8 kilometres of white-sand beach. Accessible in about fifteen minutes by boat, time seems to stand still there, where small villages live from farming and fishing. On the island, there are no roads or vehicles; you get around on foot or by bicycle. To enjoy the slow pace of Laotian life, you can take a Mekong cruise aboard Vat Phou Cruises. What to see around Champassak?
