What to do in Muang Ngoi?
The villageMuang Ngoy is a small lost paradise in northern Laos that attracts travelers seeking authenticity and tranquility. It is the perfect place to rest in a hammock by the river. Enjoy the village and the Nam Ou to cool off and appreciate the landscape: a river surrounded by mountains, an authentic small Lao village, waking up to the sound of the rooster, cows bathing, children playing. Surrounded by mountains, it is also an excellent starting point for hiking in the remote regions of Laos and spending a night with locals for total immersion! For adventurers, you can also set off by kayak from Muang Ngoy to reach Nong Khiaw. In the surrounding area, there are several caves where Laotians took shelter to avoid bombings during the Vietnam War, notably Tham Khang Cave. There are also the villages of Huay Sen, Ban Na, and Huay Bo. Regarding activities, you will have the opportunity to go kayaking or walking to reach beautiful viewpoints such as the Phanoi Cave viewpoint.
Cruising on the Nam Ou
The only way to reach the village is by boat from Nong Khiaw or Muang Khua to the north. Let yourself be lulled by a cruise on the Nam Ou River and contemplate the breathtaking scenery! This little-visited region offers dense forest that occasionally covers the superb karst mountains. This journey also allows you to discover authentic small villages and observe the peaceful life of the inhabitants along the river.

What to see around Muang Ngoi?
If you head down the Nam Ou River by boat from Muang Ngoi, you will reach Nong Khiaw, where you can take the road to Luang Prabang, the former royal capital of Laos. Along the way, you can stop at the famous sacred Pak Ou caves located at the confluence of the Nam Ou River and the Mekong. These caves contain numerous Buddha representations left by pilgrims over the centuries. In the opposite direction, about a 5-hour cruise up the Nam Ou will lead you to the small village of Muang Khua. Take the time to appreciate the magnificent landscapes: the river and karst cliffs typical of Northern Laos before reaching Muang La by road. This is where the pearl of the north is hidden, the Muang La Lodge, a beautiful ecolodge located in the heart of the mountains of Northern Laos, on the lands of ethnic minorities.

Our Story
Jean-Paul Duvergé arrived in Laos at the turn of the 2000s, fell in love with the country, and decided to stay. In 2002, he founded Asia Safari with a simple idea: to offer French-speaking travelers direct access to authentic Lao life, without the filter of large Parisian agencies. Since then, the agency has assisted thousands of travelers, built a network of trusted guides and partners, and refined its philosophy: rigorous tailor-made travel, serving authenticity.
What sets us apart
We are on site: Our team works from Vientiane. We know the roads, seasons, accommodations, guides — and what changed last week. No outdated brochures.
We speak your language: Asia Safari is a 100% French-speaking agency. All our communications, proposals, and guides speak French.
Zero intermediaries: You work directly with us. No central purchasing, no Parisian subcontractors. Fairer prices and higher service quality.

Laos must-sees
Luang Prabang: Former royal capital, a UNESCO World Heritage site, its golden temples, French colonial houses, and gentle way of life make it an undeniable favorite.
Vientiane: The human-sized capital — That Luang, Patuxai, and the banks of the Mekong are worth a visit.
Vang Vieng: Surrounded by limestone karsts, ideal for kayaking, caving, and hiking.
Southern Laos and 4000 Islands: Champassak, the Vat Phou temples (UNESCO), the Bolaven Plateau, and the Mekong islands.
Lao culture
Theravada Buddhism permeates all of Lao life. The alms giving (offerings to monks at dawn) in Luang Prabang is a daily ritual of great beauty. Lao festivals — Boun Pi Mai (Lao New Year in April), Boun Ok Phansa (Festival of Lights) — are exceptional times to travel.
Nature and biodiversity
Laos is 70% covered by forests. Its protected areas are home to rare species: Asian elephants, gibbons, sun bears. The rivers and plateaus offer natural settings of rare purity in Asia.
